Berries!

The other day we were out doing work in the orchard and we found these little guys- our first berries! After all the hard work of getting the plants into the ground, it’s exciting to see them grow and start to produce berries. Keep growing little haskaps!

Convocation 2019

And just like that I finally walked across the stage and received my second degree. It’s funny how something can feel like it took forever and flew by all at the same time.

Convo 4

I have dreamed of this day for 4 long years and now that it’s here it feels quite surreal. Even though this has been MY dream for longer than Ryan has even been around, I couldn’t have made it through these years without him. 4 years ago, he was the one that encouraged me to pursue it again and supported me as I did so. I am thankful he was there on the good days, the days where I knew it was exactly what I was meant to be doing. But I’m extra thankful he was also there on the bad days, the days I wanted to quit and give up (We both know there was a few of those). Without him supporting me, encouraging me, loving me, showing me grace and pushing me to keep going, I wouldn’t have survived these last 3.5 years, and probably would’ve quit a long time ago. So even though it’s me that gets to add an extra degree to my name, it was the teamwork that got me that and he deserves some credit too. And now even though I’m done school, it’s so great to know that I will continue to have this guy by my side!

Convo 1

I also couldn’t have done it without the support of my family and friends. People that stood by and encouraged me and supported me and pushed me. These are the people that, no matter what, are there in both the good times and the bad times. So thankful for some of the best family and friends that a girl could ask for!

The bees are back!

After a year off from bees, due to the unfortunate circumstances of a harsh winter and our hives dying, we have bees again. On May 29th, Ryan picked up and relocated our two new hives to their new home. With his newly acquired knowledge from the beekeeping course, hopefully these ones can survive and produce lots of delicious honey!

We also did our first hive check and everything is looking good! We added some boxes on top, because the hives we received this time (unlike last time) are full hives and so they should produce a full crop of honey this year.

Highlights of 2017

I have been quite absent from this space in 2017, mostly because of the busyness of life and working on finishing my masters., so things get prioritized and other things get shifted to the back burner. But a new year means new goals, right? So here we go!

Some of the highlights of 2017 include (not all pictured above):

  • Spending the beginning of 2017 on the beach in Kauai with my family
  • Adding a new dog member to our family from the SPCA, named Marlie
  • My sister’s beautiful wedding in Revelstoke
  • Completing my Master’s Practicum and presenting my project at the One Health Leadership Conference
  • A squishy new nephew
  • Family time together over my favourite holiday Christmas

Looking forward to 2018 and all the adventures it might hold!

Happy Family day!

I might be a little biased but I’m pretty sure I have the best family. So thankful for the parents that raised me- for loving, supporting, encouraging and helping me to become the person I am today. So thankful for my siblings- for two amazing role models who I can look up to and who have been there through all seasons. So thankful for the spouses we have added to our family over the years- for a sister in law who is like a sister, and now two new family members this year! So thankful for my little niece and the joy she brings. And especially so thankful for my husband and our own little family that we have become!

Oldie but goodie

In reading old posts, I found one that I love and still rings true and wanted to share it again!

It’s rebellious, in a way, to choose joy, to choose to dance, to choose to love your life.  It’s much easier and much more common to be miserable. But I choose to do what I can to create hope, to celebrate life, and the act of celebrating connects me back to that life I love. We could just live our normal, day-to-day lives, saving all the good living up for someday, but I think today, just plain today, is worth it. I think it’s our job, each of us, to live each day like it’s a special occasion, because we’ve been given a gift. We get to live in this beautiful world. When I live purposefully and well, when I dance instead of sitting it out, when I let myself laugh hard, when I wear my favourite shoes on a regular Tuesday, that regular Tuesday is better.” -Shanua Niequest

I choose joy.  I choose happiness. I choose to see the good around me. I choose love. I choose laughter. I choose goodness, and richness and fullness. I choose to dance. I choose to sing. I choose hope. I choose to celebrate life. I choose joy.

Happy Gotcha Day!

Last Saturday marked one year of Frankie joining our family! He is a fun quirky, people loving dog with the best personality and we couldn’t have asked for a better dog to complete our family. Even though he drives us crazy sometimes, we can’t imagine our life without him!
