Berries!

The other day we were out doing work in the orchard and we found these little guys- our first berries! After all the hard work of getting the plants into the ground, it’s exciting to see them grow and start to produce berries. Keep growing little haskaps!

Haskap Planting 2019

So, Haskap Planting 2019 was a success. It was a busy couple of weeks full of rototilling our rows, laying plastic mulch, planting our shelter belt trees, followed by the main event of planting our haskap trees.  Things couldn’t have gone much smoother, mostly in part to the great help we had (Thanks to my parents Barb and Ed, Ryan’s Dad Mark, Reid Patterson, Mark Rilling and Steven Lee for all their help).  Also a huge thanks to Spring Creek Market Garden for letting us use their machines and fitting us into their schedule (if you are looking for some delicious vegetables-check them out). Now let’s hope our baby Haskap’s grow and that we get some rain!

Highlights of 2018

Yet again, another year of being absent from this space in 2018, but for good reasons! Focusing on finishing grad school strong was the number one priority, and starting a Berry Orchard was a close second- both of these took up a lot of our free time! But with a new year comes new goals, right? And now that I’m finally done grad school, I have decided to try and revitalize this space..so here we go!

2018

Some of the highlights of 2018 include (not all pictured above):

  • Healing and being able to walk again after many months of a broken ankle
  • Purchasing our land that would become the home of our future Berry Orchard
  • Celebrating 5 years of marriage with my favourite guy
  • House renovations
  • A lovely biking trip in Europe with my parents and Aunt & Uncle
  • Lots and lots of farm work and working towards our dreams
  • Finally finishing my Master’s after 3.5 years

Looking forward to 2019 and all the adventures it might hold!
